The International observance of World Water Day grew out of an initiative adopted at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro. Every year a new theme regarding water is explored. The objective of World Water Day 2012 is to focus international attention on issues surrounding Water and Food Security.
GLOBE community traditionally observes World Water Day by Participating in water conservation activities, such as cleaning up a local water way, collecting hydrology data or educating y0our community about the importance of water.

2011 Surface Temperature Field Campaign
For the 6th consecutive year, GLOBE partner Dr. Kevin Czajkowski and researchers at the University of Toledo, Ohio, will host the annual Surface Temperature Field Campaign, focusing on the impacts of snow on the Earth’s temperature. Dr. Kevin Czajkowski and his research team would like to engage as many GLOBE students as possible to take Surface Temperature observations.
The Great Global Investigation of Climate (GGIC) is part of the GLOBE Student Climate Research Campaign (SCRC) and is focused on defining local climate through GLOBE protocols and the student inquiry question “What is my climate and how has it changed?” Students are asked to collect and enter temperature and precipitation data in the GLOBE database and investigate how to classify local weather and climate using these atmospheric data.

Since October 1998, the American Geological Institute has organized this national and international event to help the public gain a better understanding and appreciation for the Earth Sciences and to encourage stewardship of the Earth. This year's Earth Science Week will be held from October 9-15 and will celebrate the theme "Our Ever-Changing Earth."

The Space Age began on Oct. 4, 1957, with the launch of Sputnik 1. To commemorate this event, World Space Week will be celebrated on Oct. 4-10, 2011. During World Space Week, teachers are encouraged to use space-themed activities in the classroom. Educational materials can be found on the World Space Week website, and teachers can enter classroom events into the global calendar.
Conference on Earth Science and Climate Change Research

2011 has been declared the International Year of Forests by the United Nations General Assembly. The ENO Programme will organise ENO Tree Planting Day on the 20th of May 2011, with a theme "Forests For People - For Future Generations". Their plan is to plant 100 million trees by the year 2017. ENO calls on all schools, children and youth clubs to join them in this worldwide effort.

The 15th GLOBE Annual Partner Meeting will be held from 17 - 22 July 2011 near Washington D.C. in the city of Bethesda, Maryland, U.S.A. The theme of this year's meeting is "Expanding International Perspecives About Climate."
OhioView Summer Teacher Institute

World Water Day is a UN sponsored annual initiative that the GLOBE community often supports as a This year’s theme, Water for cities: responding to the urban challenge, aims to spotlight and encourage governments, organizations, communities, and individuals to actively engage in addressing urban water management.
Celebrated by millions of people around the world, Earth Day urges everyone to reflect on the beauty and complexity of our planet and to take responsibility for the health of the world in which we live. Earth Day 2011 is also the 16th Anniversary of the implementation of GLOBE. To celebrate Earth Day, as well as GLOBE’s birthday, we urge the GLOBE community to engage in activities proposed by the Earth Day Network (EDN), the central Earth Day organization that works with over 22,000 partners in 192 countries to broaden and diversify the environmental movement.

NASA sponsored Sun-Earth Day is comprised of a series of programs and events that occur throughout the year celebrating Sun- Earth science and culminating with a celebration on or near the Spring Equinox. This year's theme, 'Ancient Mysteries-Future Discoveries', opens the door to a much deeper understanding of our Sun and its impact across the ages.

ENO Tree Planting Day September 2011
ENO Tree Planting Day is an open event for schools and groups interested in environment and peace. It is arranged twice in a year, in May and in September. ENO students plant trees and get to know about species on the planting sites. Tree planting is one of the most popular activities in the ENO Programme.
