02/15/2012 08:00 MST - The next Great Global Investigation of Climate (GGIC) Intensive Observing Period (IOP) will take place 1–31 March 2012. Students collect and enter temperature and precipitation data in the GLOBE database and investigate how to classify local weather and climate using this atmospheric data.  If you participated in the September or December IOPs, you are encouraged to contribute data in March as well. 02/13/2012 8:00 MST - Thank you to all who offered to participate in the Beta testing process of the new GLOBE website. The GLOBE Program Office (GPO) staff is reviewing entries and will announce five winners in our March e-newsletter. To participate, send an email to newglobe@globe.gov by 20 February and tell us why you should be a Beta tester. We are looking for compelling stories––so be creative.  

02/13/2012 9:00 MST - Get your camera out and hit record ... Entries for the GLOBE Earth Day video competition will be accepted from 15 February to 15 March 2012. The video contest is a creative way for students to showcase how they are exploring and investigating their local climate using GLOBE protocols and learning activities. Learn about the latest highlights, see who is participating and learn how to engage in upcoming programs such as Intensive Observation Periods (IOPs) and the Earth Day video competition.

02/03/2012 12:00 MST - On Monday, 30 January, a celebration of the life of Dr. Andy Tasker was held in Coventry, England. The room could barely hold the many friends who came from far and wide to pay tribute to this remarkable man. Here at the GLOBE Program Office, we recognize, honor and celebrate the life of Dr. Tasker (Andy, as he preferred to be called) and his longstanding commitment to stewardship of the Earth. He devoted his life to education, to land preservation, to wildlife and nature, to family and friends and to building community –at home and throughout the world. Andy was motivated by a sincere interest in improving the quality of life of all living things.

2/01/2012 08:00 MST - Drs. Shuji Yamashita (right) and Tomoyasu Yoshitomi (left) currently lead the GLOBE Program in Japan. The two scientists are colleagues at Tokyo Gakugei University that houses the Field Studies Institute for Environmental Education (FSIFEE). The GLOBE Japan center is comprised of faculty from FSIFEE’s field of Soil Science, Environmental Education and Fish Biology and the University’s departments of Physics, Physical Geography and Conservation Ecology that conduct research in the methodology of field studies and promote environmental education in schools.

2/02/2012 09:00 MST - In an effort to make the transition from the current GLOBE website to the new website as smooth as possible, the GLOBE technical team will extend the Beta test period by a few weeks. This will allow GLOBE to properly evaluate the initial (Stage 1) Beta test results.  

Now is your chance to get involved in the Beta testing process. If you would like to participate in the expanded Beta test of the new GLOBE website, send us an email, at newglobe@globe.gov. Tell us why you would like to test the new website. The top five (5) most interesting entries will be selected as Beta testers. We look forward to hearing from you.
